Caring for a horse or Pony

Owning or caring for a horse or pony, can be enjoyable and very rewarding but there are lots of responsibilities, hard work, and expense that go with this rewarding past time. This commitment should be looked into very carefully, before getting your horse or pony.

Horses and ponies require special care and attention every day of the year, and this care must be provided whatever the weather. They must be put first, however many other jobs you have to do. You must always allow plenty of spare time for looking after these animals, they require a lot of attention.

It is good to have basic Knowledge about horses and ponies before taking on the responsibility. If you know someone who has a horse or pony, ask for advice, or help out for a while, you could even go to a livery yard and help out there. People will always be glad to help and show you the correct way to look after these animals.

You must be carefull, make sure when you get your advice that it is coming from someone who knows what they are talking about, as bad advice can also be found easily.

There are also many very good books you can buy and read up on about horses and ponies, it is better to have plenty of knowledge about the animal you are thinking about taking on. Also advice can be got from the RSPCA, and other Horse rescue centers, they are only too pleased to give advice new owners and experienced owners alike, as we do not want to see the animals suffering due to lack of knowledge or through poor advice given.
