An Unfinished Accident by June Stuart

This is a story about what happened to my friend and her pony.

My friend, Rachel, has a 13.3 chestnut gelding called Flame. One morning her dad was driving her to a hunt, there was black ice on the road and the box started jack-knifing pulling the car all over the road. Eventually the car hit a pillar and the box hit a bank and went over on its side. They couldn't get Flame out for ages and he was struggling like mad inside. Eventually they got him out. People in a house called a local vet and a farm down the road took him in. The vet said he had shattered the ligaments on his hind leg. If any more of the ligaments broke, his hock would snap from the strain and he would be put down.

Thankfully he is recovering and has been brought home, he has just been turned out in a very small field. It will be a year before he will be able to be ridden again, and he is on bute and having to take things slowly. Hopefully this story will have a happy ending and he will recover.

It's funny because you never think it's going to happen to you and then it does!
